The full roll cage is manufactured from 48mm BS 1387 ‘Motor Sport Association’ approved tube. The whole front end with galvanised steel bonnet and inner wings is designed to pivot forwards to allow superb engine access. This all mounts onto the Vitara chassis complete with the galvanised side panels, galvanised inner rear wheel arches and plastic mudguards. The engine, gearbox, suspension and fuel tank etc. are all left undisturbed attached to the chassis. The front bulkhead complete with the dash, heater, wiring, pedals, wipers and steering etc. are also all left as they were in the Vitara saving a lot of work. Even the front and rear seats and floor can be left in place. A set of waterproof seat covers can be fitted. The remaining rust prone Vitara bodywork, sills and wheel arches etc. are removed.

Full details are given in the Outbak assembly manual, but as can be seen this is a very straightforward and simple conversion. As the Outbak uses the original Vitara chassis it is exempt from the Single Vehicle Approval Test, therefore a standard MOT, road tax and insurance are only required to use the Vitara on the road.
